I think the priority this off-season should be to move Staal. Nash could probably fetch a boat load come the trade deadline. |

Your team is knocked out early yet has a solid core that now is showing wear & not winning cup last 3 yrs.... close but no cigar aint cuttin it...
If you have a true G M mind & dont have any affinit's for any player
Then your ready for what i want :
leaving 1st : we need cap space & trade out talented & productive players thatt wont get up the mountain here in NY...
From Our core .....Step ,Nash,Kreids ..... 1 Vet D men outta 3 (staal Gman Klein)
for a multitude of pros & cons i see us freeing up $$$ to get the players we need thru FA & trades....
trading those guys in 2 pkgs will get back top yg players ..
I E T Barrie Colo. ? a top wing (EDM) 3rd /4th line center top draft picks
INCOMING: Stamkos ,Mcginn , Bushny *(rook) K Y. ? only if he takes family discount)
Line up : D Mac ,Shey , Macrath, 2 vet D , top 2 D rtd.(trade ) K Y ?
if we keep K Y we trade or payoff another vet D
wings : Stamkos Mcginn .....Bushny*?
Brass Zucc Miller
Hayes Fast .....Oscar I R till NOv.
Hrivik Glass Stalberg ? i liked him,sign F A ?
not sure of the trade returns But want to get a top yg wing & top yg D for all our talent going out along with cap freedom to sign the needs of NYR
IMO we have retooled and upgraded for a last type run for cup w/ HANK
maybe a 2 -3 yr window has just been built if u ask me....L G R |

I think the C- is a touch unfair. I totally agree that someone of his caliber and contract should veer more productivity, but in an injury-plagued season, it's tough to fully criticize the player(s) (see Girardi).
Yes, I too wanted, and expected, more. The reality is though, Nash missed a nice sized chunk of the season. He started the season very slow, then picked it up in November (7 goals), cooled of some, then missed nearly two months, and then never regained his groove the last three-plus weeks remaining in the regular season. Who's to say that if he didn't miss all those games with that leg injury he doesn't net 5 - 7 goals each month that he missed. That would have him sniffing that 30 goal mark again.
36 points (15, 21) in 60 games in an injury riddled season. My grade wouldn't be much better, I admit, but a grade close to a D is not entirely agreeable: C+ |

it's hard not to think about an F grade for Nash when you consider the team had it's best month of the whole year in February when Nash was out
I do take issue when saying Nash has only had one good season out of 4 with the Rangers though
he's had 2 great seasons, 1 blah, and 1 F |

At the end of the day Nash was brought in to be a game breaking franchise player and he just flat out failed this year in that regard. |

I think he'll be very solid after a long summer off. He usually gets embarrassed after his bad years and works his tail off in the summer.
Whoever has Nash next year is gonna have a solid player |

No doubt about that. I expect a 35 goal season next year from him at the minimum. Just the pattern he's seemed to develop with one good year one bad year one good year one bad year etc. |

You still want to trade him when his value is low like it is now? Or do you hold on hope he bounces back? |

I think it's hard to improve the team with his cap hit. I think the Rangers need to pick up around 2 million each of his remaining two years and make the next Gomez trade |

I just want trading/draft/free agency to be here. I am really excited/nervous/curious to see what Gorton does to the team. |

We'd need to bring in a proven player to replace his production. So are we better with Nash here or with 2M on the books from salary retention and Kyle Okposo signed for the $6M in cap space we gain?
We would bring back assets in the Nash trade too obviously, such as a 1st round pick or a prospect. |

Who you bringing back in? I think Nash goes, you pretty much are starting a mini rebuild for a year or two, maybe a little more. |

Yea a lot of people tend to be like "let's get rid of Nash's salary over the next 2 years...so we can go out and overpay for a less productive free agent for 7 years" |

It's impossible to say that Nash needs to be traded.
If the right deal presents itself, than by all means trade him. Right off the bat, the options are limited b/c he has to list 10-12 teams.
Its gonna be very tough to find a solid return when NYR has only 1/3 of the league to deal w/.
I don't envy Gorton this summer |

I just think the return isn't going to be nearly what we lose at the time, unless they retain a bunch of salary. If its picks, prospects etc, i'm fine with that but it wont pay dividends for a few years.
Biggest question is do they do a mini rebuild right now, and take the chance Hank really declines once the mini rebuild is over, or just keep patching holes and stay competitive while Hank is still playing well. |
